If you’re an employer, the size of your company doesn’t really matter. What matters is getting the most out of your employees to see the company succeed.
According to Jeff Weiner, CEO of LinkedIn, the key to leadership is employee empowerment. Here’s why:
There are many ways to empower your employees, including providing them with:
-The flexibility to work remotely, wherever and whenever they can produce
-The tools they need to do their best work
-The freedom and psychological safety required to explore new ideas, to experiment, and to express dissenting opinions
Of course, good leadership involves maintaining interest in your people’s work, and offering helpful advice when appropriate.
But if you really want to see what your people are capable of, don’t be afraid to get out of their way.
Weiner also urges employers to listen to their employees at all times and show appreciation not only for their work product, but also their opinions. Letting your employees know how much you value them, in Weiner’s view, allows you to inspire them as a leader.
